MuayThaiArt is back with another movie review. And of course it’s gotta be all about boxing. Lately there are not so many boxing movie produced, however there are quite a lot in the past or only a few in each year.

The City for Conquest, directed by Anatole Litvak, is a classic boxing film from 1940. The performance of the actors is outstandingly great.

Story: Danny Kenny, a truck driver, joins “the fight game” and his girlfriend, Peggy Nash. Danny is successful in the ring and give his money to pay for his brother’s, Eddie, musical career. At the meantime Peggy becomes a dancer refusing to marry Danny, so Danny moves on by continuing his fighting career. He was blinded by rosin dust that was placed on the boxing gloves of his opponent during the fight. His manager funds a newsstand for the semi-blind Danny.

At the end, his brother becomes a very successful music composer and dedicates a symphony to his brother. Danny gets to listen to the concert through a radio from his stand. And his girl, Peggy, returns to him at the stand where they are back together again.

Welcome to Thai Learning article! Today I’m going to teach you how to get involve in other people business. Haha just joking but we have the word “Thai Moong” which is a term used to describe a group of people surrounding a scene, any scene actually, for example, a crime scene. And the word does describe one of Thai personalities. Basically it’s the want of knowing other people’s business.

But I guess that’s not just Thai people. It’s the nature of human wanting to know about other people. That’s why we consume news. We always want to know what happen when and where and why and how.

We always ask the question “what happened?” without noticing it. Sometimes we are not even sure why we want to know. And today in this article I’m teaching you how to ask the question in Thai.

Let’s get started!

How to say that in Thai is “Kerd Arai Kheun”. It is really simple actually. I’ll break it down for you.
What = Arai (If you have been with us long enough, you will know the meaning of this alreay)
Happen = Kerd Kheun (well this is your new word)

Kerd Kheun also means “to occur” “to take place” or “to come about”.

Muay Thai 24 Cherng Sok: YAN PAYAK

You might be wondering what the heck YAN PAYAK is. YAN PAYAK is a name for one of the Muay Thai’s Cherng Sok or the elbow methods. There are 24 of them and we are about in the middle of the way. We already finished with the Cherng Mud or punching methods, so if you are interested in learning Muay Thai for free, you can look through our blog right here from the past.

Take your time. Before moving on to the next move, make sure you can do the old ones already. We don’t post this lesson very often, however, it’s still too fast to learn and practice it at the same time. It might be better if you practice this move with your Muay Thai trainer, so he can correct your move in case you do something wrong.

YAN PAYAK is also known as the Repeating Elbows. This move is only used for defense. It is done by putting your arm to your shoulders’ level. At the same time, bend your left elbow and turn the tip of your left fist to the right to hit your opponent’s Adam’s apple or chin for your alternative. The arm is then used to wrap around your opponent’s neck- a move that will keep the head bending back- and the right elbow is thrown to your opponent’s face.

To the Attack: Raise your right arm to wipe the fighter’s left elbow down and shield against the second hit, the right elbow, by putting your left arm up.

To the Defense: Use your right knee to strike the boxer’s left rib, or throw both knees, not together but one after the other, targeting the boxer’s midsection. If the boxer is left handed, reverse the actions from one side to the other.

Thailand: Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya or Ayutthaya

If you visit Thailand and you didn’t go to Ayutthaya, that means you have not been to Thailand yet. That’s because the province is one of Thailand’s historical and majestic highlights. Ayutthaya was Thailand’s capital city for 417 years from 1350 to 1767. During that time, Ayutthaya was one of the biggest city in Southeast Asia and it was claimed by the visitors to be the most memorable and splendid city at that time.

Back then the Kingdom was extended far beyond the present-day Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar. It had diplomatic relations with Louis XIV and was courted by Portuguese, English, Dutch, Chinese and Japanese merchants.

Ayutthaya is situated only about 90 kilometers from Bangkok or about an hour ride. You cannot miss Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Historical Park, the extensive historical site in the city. It has been one of UNESCO’s World Heritage since 1991.

What you can see in Ayutthaya is a bunch of ruins architecture and rows of headless Buddha images. You will see the mixture of art from surrounding countries. You might see the same architectures that are similar in some parts throughout Southeast Asia, for example, in Cambodia.

The city is definitely worth visiting. There are lots of activities you and your family can enjoy doing in the city such as boat trips, Bangkok-Ayutthaya River Cruise, Cycle Tours in the Ancient City of Ayutthaya, Elephant riding, etc.
