Welcome back! Can you believe it’s December already? What so special about this month everyone knows. It’s the month of Shopping or Christmas shopping to be exact. And when it comes to the time to buy presents or gifts, boxing equipment is not such a bad idea to give to someone.

I myself have a nephew and I was giving a lot of thoughts what should I buy for a 13 years old boy. He kinda loves sports so I think a boxing equipment set that has the basic Thai boxing items like Muay Thai Gloves, shorts and a pair of handwraps should be nice before introducing him to the sport.

So I pick these three items for my nephew and I’m pretty sure he will love them. Check them out!

Black is his favorite color as same as many junior high boys’ I assume. This is just the idea. In case you’re still deciding what you want to give to your family, cousin, or nephew or friends, Boxing gears are cool enough just make sure he or she is a sporty type of person. Besides it’s a great chance to teach him this cool and useful self defense sport.

I’ll see you next time with more Boxing Christmas gift idea.

Thai Boxing Learning Video 6: The Uppercut Elbow

Hi there! What do you know about the Muay Thai uppercut elbow? Our next learning video will show you the move of this technique. First let’s talk about it just a little bit before we start.

The Uppercut Elbow is called in Thai “Sork Ngad” or “Sork Seuy”. This elbow move is used for targets like chin, jaw, or face area by thrusting the elbow diagonally upwards to hit the aiming target. See the example in our learning video here.

Basically there are two ways to perform this Muay Thai elbow move. The first is by using the lead elbow for the uppercut and the second is by using the rear one.

The normal way or the most common used is the Thai boxing rear uppercut elbow if you’re right handed. First, start with the Muay Thai boxing stance. Move your weight on your left leg and then twist your right shoulder and also hip and leg over to the left. Add more power to the impact by bending both knees just a bit. At the mean time, hold your right elbow in position to attack and raise the arm it diagonally upwards so that your fist is close to your face on the left.

Now the fun part. Thrust your right elbow slightly diagonally up and round, adding the force. Use the point of the elbow to hit the target.
For alternative, you can also use your left elbow for this Thai boxing move. It will be called “Lead” uppercut elbow. Besides using the lead elbow is somewhat easier. The body weight stay on your left leg just like when using the right elbow. But instead, raise your left arm diagonally so the fist is next to your face on the right. And you know what comes next. Thrust the left elbow diagonally upwards to hit the opponent’s chin, jaw or face.

Well I guess this is it! Hope this video and article will help you understand the technique and even better you will get a chance to use it. Good luck!

Muay Thai 24 Cherng Sok : Kon Tee Thang

Wow it’s been months since I last put articles about Muay Thai lessons here. I will continue today with the Cherng Sok or elbow techniques. Please also see our past free lesson articles I think they can be useful to help you learn Muay Thai fast at home even though some of these techniques were only used in the past or in Muay Thai Boran. But you can always adapt it and use to improve your Muay Thai skills.

This method I’m going to talk about today is called “Kon Tee Thang” or planting the elbows. The move is often used when your opponent loses control of his balance after attempting a Muay Thai technique on you and consequently rushes in to do a following up trick. If your opponent is moving in to your left, you can use your left elbow and strike it on his back. If he’s coming to your right, simply use your right elbow instead. At the meantime while you’re dropping one or both elbows, do not forget to drop your weight as well by flexing your knees to add more force to the elbow impact to the target. For more at advance, check his face area if it is left open at this time. If it is, you can also hit the opponent’s chin with your knee.

To Attack: Raise both of your fists to protect your neck and use both of your elbows to protect your chest area.

To Defense: If at all possible, try to evade the blows by turning back and throwing either of your elbows to strike the opponent’s chest.

Muay Thai is not that easy but it’s not too hard if you practice hard enough. Try this and practice with your Muay Thai training so he can correct any mistake you might accidentally make. Get healthy and get better with your Muay Thai skills now.

Come back here again and check out for more Muay Thai lessons. I will try to do better. At times, go back and review our old lessons to keep your skill strong. Enjoy!

Top King Boxing Gloves : White

This pair of gloves is just right for me and for anybody who’s into combat sports like MMA, Savate, Western Boxing or fitness training. In my opinion, they are quite comfortable and easy to wear. Made with Velcro Straps instead of rope, these Muay thai gloves from Top King make your life easier.

Right now I’m trying to improve my kicking skills so I bought a pair of Kicking Pad. First I tried to weigh out because Raja Kicking Pads should also be good. Top Kings on the other hand look good. At the end I chose Top King. Here they are.

And the latest one that I just bought last week is training bag gloves. I normally use the full thumb style since I feel more confident and firm. One thing about choosing a pair of training bag gloves is to make sure it’s made of real leather because it will last much longer than the fake ones.
