Right now everything is all about Olympics! Just like the movie I’m presenting to you today. It is a story about a talented young Native American, Navajo, boxer who dreams to be an Olympics winner.

The film was written and directed by Rick Schroder and stars Eddie Spears, Russell Means, Julia Jones, Tim McGraw, Peter Greene, Wayne Knight, Tim Sampson and “Pooch” Marion Hall.

Black Cloud (Spears) is a skillful young boxer, second to no one. He was offered an opportunity to fight his way on to the Olympic Boxing Team. He defiantly declines, willing to fight only for his homeland, the Navajo Nation.

From what I see, Black Cloud did impress many viewers. One said “Incredible movie. Awesome hero. Great boxing scenes, gorgeous cinematography, funny jokes. Realistic & entertaining. (How often do you get that?) Good soundtrack” Wow he really likes this movie, doesn’t he? But I really agree. You don’t find all those in a lot of movies.

Everyone who made this film happen should be proud of themselves. The film is very inspiring for everyone.

It was released 4 years ago. So now you can look for it in a store near you or you can rent it. This drama is good to watch with anyone. Even good for kids.

Boxing Film: The Champ (1931)

There are a lot of films that involve boxing, in which there are pretty cool fighting scenes. I want to tell you every boxing film I know. Some of them I haven’t watched myself but I will just tell you what other people think about them.

One of the first great boxing movies is The Champ. The film is full of terrific scenes, such as comedy and heartbreaking sadness. The terrific story tells about an ex-champ, a washed-up, boozing and gambling prizefighter (played by Beery) and his sweet and wise son named (Cooper).

The movie also shows the beautiful friendship between the kid (Cooper) and his black friend which is such color-blind. It is so pure and touchy when in the movie the child said “He’s colored”. It might be because of King Vidor, the director of the Champ, who I find his movies are full of sympathy, human and compassion.

The Best Writing, Original Story Oscar! Because of this film, Wallace Beery got to share the Best Actor Oscar with Frederic March from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Champ and the director, King Vidor, were also nominated.

I recommend you to watch this movie is not only because it involves boxing, but also the goodness and the advantages of the film that is full of heart and such adoring.

The plot of this story is about an ex-champion that became alcoholic and a loser who lost the gambling and ended up in jail realizes that he has to do something good for once for his beloved son. He thinks that it might be better if his son belongs to the mother, who gave her own child up after divorce but now rich because of her new husband. The son goes tearfully but sneaks out to see his father and always cheers him up. The ex-champ finally gets another chance to fight with the Mexican Champion after his manager arranged him a boxing match.

Welcome to MuayThaiArt.com! Are you ready for another great boxing film to watch? Today’s film that I’m going to recommend you today is one of those oldies. You might have heard of this movie before.

For me this movie is really inspiring and it gives the message of “not quitting”. Don’t listen to anyone that says you can’t do something if you believe you really can. It is also a great love story.

The Set-Up is an American black and white boxing drama. The director, Robert Wise, made this in what appear to be real time. The drama features Robert Ryan, Audrey Totter and others.

The film tells about the boxing gangland, the tank-town circuit led by mobsters where up-and-comers get their jaws and has-beens rent themselves out as fresh punching bag.

Here’s the plot of the movie I got from Wikipedia
Stoker Thompson (Robert Ryan) is a 35-year-old once used-to-be boxer. His promising fighting career has now come to the end. Even his wife is the first one who what him to end this career soon before he gets beaten up to death. Tiny (George Tobias), Stoker’s manager, is sure that if Stoker still keeps fighting, he sure continue losing in every fight. That is when Tiny decides to earn dirty money from a mobster. And sure that Stoker doesn’t know about this evil set-up plan.
At the beginning of the last round of the 4-round vicious bout with much younger and heavily-favored Tiger Nelson (Hal Baylor), Stoker knows about the set-up. However, he refuses to give up the fight and mashes on.
In the end, he defeats Nelson, but Little Boy who is behind all this fix get Stoker’s right hand broken as punishment.

Quite interesting old movie, don’t you think? Don’t forget to check out this film near your house. This one great quality film won’t let you down.

The Boxer (1997)

You still don’t know what to watch this week? If I told you that I have a film to introduce, you must know that it’s gonna be one of the boxing film. And if you know it’s a boxing film, you will expect to see lots and lots of actions. Well I might disappoint you that. This movie is completely a true drama. It’s not really a boxing movie, but a movie with boxing in it.

The reason I want you to see this movie is because it is so damn good. I don’t see a person who’s seen it hate it. It has some really good comments; however the film couldn’t make a big sell. It is not as popular as it supposed to be actually. What a shame. I think people should get a chance to watch it or have it at home. And if you are also a drama-freak, you will definitely love it!

The Boxer was released in 1997. The director was Jim Sheridan who really did a great job. And the main characters starred by Daniel Day Lewis and Emily Watson could and already impressed the viewers.

The movie is a story of a guy named Danny Flynn, a boxer and former Irish Republican Army (IRA) volunteer, played by Lewis, is released from prison in Belfast after fourteen years for his past in IRA activities. He attempts to “go straight” and build up a new life, starting a boxing gym for young people in his old home and training them as young boxers like himself, with no political or sectarian ties. He also tries to reconnect with his woman he left behind when he had to go to the prison, played by Watson. However this past always catches up with him and will not gonna let him live a peaceful life.

So that is just something you can spend your free time doing it. It is a really great movie, I can assure you that. And I don’t want you to miss it. So go to your neighborhood’s DVD renting shop now and rent this movie. You won’t be disappointed!

The Way of the Dragon by Bruce Lee

Welcome back to MuayThaiArt.com/weblog! We’re back with another old movie. However this old movie I’m talking about was made by a Legend, Bruce Lee. So that makes it a lot more interesting to watch.

The Way of the Dragon is considered to be Lee’s best film. He wrote, directed and starred in this action movie. He took a role of a na?ve country boy sent to Rome to help his relatives. A calm and kind Asian like himself will turn into a killing machine once he’s pissed by some bad guys.

If the hero is an Asian guy, so the bad guy has to be a Caucasian. Real-life Karate Champion Chuck Norris took this role and he had to fight against Bruce in the film. So you imagine how well the fighting scenes had turned out. The fight scene against Chuck Norris remains supreme to this day. Bruce had to take hours of Boxing and Wrestling class just for this scene.

However, there are some funny scenes when Bruce had a difficult time adjusting into a new environment. But that makes the film plot really similar to many other of his films like The Big Boss (since there are quite number of the same people appearing in both films) and it could be boring for many critics because they always want to find something new.

Note: Mohammed Ali, the great heavyweight boxer at that time, had an influence in Bruce’s style of fighting. If you have noticed, in this film, Bruce is more on his toes not flat footed as in his earlier movies.

When it first ran at the Asian cinemas, the Way of the Dragon grossed $HK 5 million. For Bruce Lee fans, the Way of the Dragon still remains the greatest Bruce Lee film of all time.

So if you get a chance to rent or even better buy this film to your martial arts collection, I recommend you should do so. If you really are martial arts fan, this movie can never disappoint you.
