This is another fun thing I enjoy doing. Since I once in a while write articles about Muay Thai, I have to search the market too. I’ve seen thousands and thousands of boxing shorts and gloves. I kinda know which pair of gloves goes well with which pair of shorts. Wearing something that match is good for your look and I think that’s kinda important. Good clothing can make you look more professional. You know it’s true.
I never mix and match two items of different brands since on Muay thai items will have big brand logo on it. I think that kinda affects the pattern and the look of that particular piece. So I’m gonna do only Top King’s today.
Top King’s products are great, especially the satin Muay Thai shorts. The quality of the gloves are pretty good comparing to their price. Velcro straps help it easier to put them on or take them off. Beside almost everyone use Velcro straps Muay thai gloves nowadays.
Here are a couple pairs of item I matched:

Top King Boxing Shorts: TKTBS-06
and

Top King Muay Thai Gloves: Black/White

Top King Muay Thai Shorts: TKTBS-33
Got your own mix and match and want to share with us?
I personally have been using many brands of Muay Thai gloves, like Twins, Raja, Windy and Fairtex all made in Thailand. They are all different in my opinion. You can really say which ones are better than the others. I use a specific pair of Muay thai gloves for a specific purpose.
Twins Special’s gloves are great and work really well for me. However, the leather is not that thick as you think comparing to the more expensive brands. So I only use Twins boxing gloves for sparring not bag or mitts training. But other than that, they are perfect for me.
Another good thing about Twins’ gloves is the price. It’s reasonable comparing to the quality you will get. So their thai boxing gloves are ideal for new to intermediate fighters. Moreover, the factory sells so many different models of gloves not boring plain color. And I think that helps keeping the brand in the market. People love to have choices, right?

I bought this exact pair of White 14 oz. Twin gloves a year ago and they still look pretty good now. Plain white color always looks good and goes well with anything else. As I told you before, I have more than one pairs of Muay Thai gloves so I alternate them that explain why I’m able to use them quite a long time. Some say they use their twins gloves for only a few months and the leather get bad and wrinkle. That’s because they’ve been using them quite often, say 6 days a week. And I also think I’ve been using them for longer time because I always take good care of my Boxing equipment. For leather equipment I once a month rub with leather cleaner to prevent the leather skin from drying out and breaking.
Do you have Twins muay thai gloves? And what do you think about them?
Do you hate that nasty smell when you open your Muay Thai training bag? The sweat from working out will stick to your equipment like gloves, handwraps or even head gear if you don’t know how to take care of the smell properly. Besides a good care will help the equipment last longer.
Sure if after every training you put your sweaty gloves or other stuff right back in your bag or locker, it will cause a very unpleasant smell. And who would love that? So the secret is if you don’t clean your equipment regularly, at least try to dry out your equipment a bit before putting them back and when you get home, bring those boxing equipments out to let it dry completely. Then you can put them away.
The best way to dry your leather Muay Thai gloves, or head gear or whatever Muay Thai equipment, just let it sit and dry in the room temperature. But who got the time right? Another good choice is to use hair dryer. Use the cool air until it’s just dry since hot air or too long drying time will damage the leather in a long term.
Letting the equipment dry before putting them away is a good start. But that doesn’t always get rid all the smell. You can do as what I do. Charcoals are great for absorbing anything like moisture or smell. So I put a good amount of charcoals in an old sock then put it in my training bag. Or if you use locker you can put it in your locker. If you don’t like charcoals and afraid it will dirty your Muay Thai equipments, you can always use something else that can help absorb the smell and moisture. Cedar chips work quite well for this matter too.

Raja Muay Thai Gloves: Green King

Twins Thai boxing head guard HGL-3: Black
Then it wouldn’t hurt if you also care of the outside of the Muay Thai gloves or Leather Muay Thai Head Guard or any leather muay thai equipment once in a while. I rub them with a little waxy (you can use leather cleaner or even cheap body lotion will also work for this job) to clean the outside and to soften the leather to prevent it from breaking so early.
These are nothing much to do. It requires only little time to care for your Boxing equipment but as a result they will last much longer.
Boxing is a full contact sport. So pain or strains and sprains are not avoidable even when you are sure to have a good warm up before starting Muay Thai work out or fight or even when you are sure you don’t position wrong. But accidents or mistakes can always happen. Muay Thai boxers in Thailand know that well and also know how to reduce the pain and how to prevent it from happen so easily.
Boxing Liniment or Nam Man Muay is used by Muay thai fighters before each fight or each work out. It is used by rubbing onto bones and muscles that will be used in the fight like shin area. This old based liniment not only helps preventing the injury, it can also be good for healing the pain like sore muscles or stiff joints. This is one of those items that can’t be missed out by full time fighters.

Not only liniment, Num Mun Muay also have Boxing analgesic cream that can also help reduce the pain from injury or banged up muscle or bones.

The other 2 products below you might have not seen them. They are healing oil and balm known by Thai people to have healing ability. They are not only great for rubbing onto the painful areas, but also perfect for dizziness or faint. Since they contains pure herbs such as peppermint, menthol, camphor, cinnamon oil and clove oil, the oil and balm are completely safe for everyday use. Give them a try.

Well, so if you don’t have one of those in your Muay Thai training bag. I suggest you have one since you never know when it will come in handy. See you next time!
