Welcome back to Speak of Thai. We’re here to teach you thai words and phrases every week. It’s really useful for those of you who are travelers and who want to study another cool language.
Today I’m teaching you a really simple conversation, to say hi and how you are? These are the phrases people use in every cultures and languages, so it’s really not a bad idea to know some of phrases, don’t you think?
Here we go!
Hi, how are you? = sa-wad-dee, sa-bai-dee-mai (สวัสดี สบายดีไหม)
I’m fine. And you? = sa-bai-dee. laew-kun-la (สบายดี แล้วคุณล่ะ)
I’m fine. = sa-bai-dee (สบายดี)
There you go! That’s really short and easy, right? Give it a few rounds of practice before we go on to the next step.
Now is another quick tip of showing good manners and politeness. We have different endings of each sentence for men and for women.
For men is “krap” (ครับ)
For women is “ka” (ค่ะ)

(Male)Hi, how are you? = sa-wad-dee-krap, sa-bai-dee-mai-krap (สวัสดีครับ สบายดีไหมครับ)
(Female)I’m fine. And you? = sa-bai-dee-ka. laew-kun-la-ka
(สบายดีค่ะ แล้วคุณล่ะคะ)
(Male)I’m fine. = sa-bai-dee-krap (สบายดีครับ)
