Another week passed by. Speak of Thai is back again with another lesson that will teach you how to speak Thai. Like we usually do, we’ll go really easy and with just the basics. Don’t worry if you can’t pronounce it exactly correct like Thais. Remember that there are also dialects that are different in each part of Thailand. What I’m teaching you here is the official Thai that is understood throughout Thailand.

Today topic is “I lost my wallet”. Hey you never know this thing might happen anytime. The point is do you know how to tell anyone and ask for help.

It’s really important to be really careful and always take care of your belongings when you travel. However the chance that any incident might happen is there. So today I’ll tell you how to say “I lost my wallet” and “Could you help me?”

“I lost my wallet” is Pom (or “Chan” if you’re female)-Tum-Kra-Pao-SaTang-Hai
To make it easy to memorize I’ll break it down for you. Pom or Chan is how to call yourself in Thai. Tum here means “to do” or “to make”. Kra-Pao means “bag or pack”. SaTang means “money”. So Kra-Pao-SaTang literally means “money bag” which is a wallet or a purse. And Hai…the last one, I guess you can guess already…it means “lost”.

Now is the way to ask for help. This case if you know what to do or know where to police station is, don’t bother to memorize it. But you can use it in any other situations when you need help anyway.

“Could you help me?” is Chuay-Pom (or Chan)-Noi-Dai-Mai-Krap (or Ka for girls)
Chuay means “to help”. Chan or Pom…you already know these two. Noi here means “a little” or “a bit”. Dai-Mai…I think we already talked about this two words in our passed articles. Dai-Mai means “is it ok?” and the last, Krap and Ka you know they are polite endings for boys and girls.

Not that simple but not too hard I believe. Give it a try! You know it might come handy one day!
